Tansen Field Works

The third year students are taken to Butwal-Tansen area in mid western central Nepal, situated about 280 km west of Kathmandu along the Siddharth Highway (Sunauli-Pokhara Highway). The department has its own building at Masyam, Tallo Dumre (Palpa District) and used as a base camp for conducting the training. The students have the opportunity to study the Siwaliks and the fossiliferous Lesser Himalayan rocks and learn mapping techniques. At the end of the training, they are required to prepare a geological map, route maps and cross-sections. They have to finally submit a geological report to the department, which will be externally examined and must appear for the viva- voce.
