Profile

  • M.Sc. in Earth Resources and Environmental Geosciences with Specialization in Geological Engineering (2004), International Institute For Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), The Netherlands.

  • M. Sc in Geology (1994), Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal

  • B.Sc. Geology (1992) Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal

Research Interests

  • Empirical relations for earthquake response of slopes

Greatest achievement so far:The empirical relation of ground motion amplification with the slope material properties, slope height and the frequency or wavelength of the earthquake signal is found in terms of amplification as a function of those parameters. Among the parameters, the variation of  ground motion amplification with the slope height and the wavelength of input wave is most useful for Nepal as the new slopes during road cut can be designed using this relationship so that the slopes will have less chance of failure during  earthquake. It should be noted here that most of the road construction in Nepal is done by cut and fill method for which the design of height of the slope is most complicated and challenging task for engineers. Hence, slope collapse along the road corridor and also natural slopes will be significantly reduced if slopes are designed using findings of my research.

  • Dynamic modeling in slopes

  • Slope Stability Probability Classification (SSPC)

  • Scientific and geotechnical research in the field of hydropower development projects.

  • Scientific and geotechnical research for hydrological modeling of ground water.

  • Research in different aspects of Earthquakes including seismic microzonation, liquefaction and ground response analysis.

  • Earthquake modeling for slope problems.

  • Further study and research in the field of Rock Mechanics.

  • Research for scientific and technical mitigation measures of different types of landslides and slope stability problems occurring frequently in Nepal.

Publications
