Malekhu Field Works

The second year fieldwork training is conducted at Malekhu, lying about 70 km west of Kathmandu along the Kathmandu-Pokhara Highway (Prithvi Highway). The department has its own building at Malekhu used as a base camp for conducting the training. The students learn here to use the geological compass, identifying rocks and minerals and structures and mapping techniques. At the end of the training, they are required to prepare a geological map, route maps and cross-sections. They have to finally submit a geological report to the department, which will be externally examined and must appear for the viva- voce.
